Firefighter Minimum Standards Certification Program:

Summer Semester

  • FFP 0141C First Responder/Firefighter Awareness
  • FFP 0010C Firefighter I

Fall Semester
  • FFP 0020C Firefighter II

Applications for the Firefighter Minimum Standards Certification Program (June 2013 class) will be accepted starting January 22, 2013 through May 24, 2013, Monday - Thursday 9am - 4pm. APPLICATIONS will be accepted in the following ways:

IN PERSON - Applications will be accepted in person at the Edison State College Lee Campus, Building B on January 22, 2013 through May 24, 2013, Monday - Thursday 9am - 4pm

BY MAIL - Applications received by mail must be postmarked January 22, 2013 through May 24, 2013, Monday - Thursday 9am - 4pm

Applications that are not complete will not be accepted, and will be returned to you. Please refer to the Firefighter Certification Program Instructions and Application for further details.


This program will provide training for Southwest Florida firefighters in partnership with the North Naples Fire Training Center. This program is designed to prepare students to be eligible to sit for the State of Florida Firefighter II Certification exam. Students must satisfy the requirements set forth in NFPA 1001 and Florida State Statute 69A-37. This is a 510-hour course that runs for 6 months. Classes are held in Naples on Tuesday and Thursday evenings and on Saturdays. The cost for this course varies due to equipment needs. Approximately $4100 will cover course application, gear rental (if needed), uniforms, books, testing, fingerprints, etc.

The Firefighter I & II certificate is a limited admission program. The application can be downloaded below. This program has limited enrollment and is based on completed applications received during specified periods.

The Firefighter Minimum Standards Program is a physically challenging course that includes extensive classroom and practical filed components. To ensure candidates are physically and mentally prepared for the vigor’s of the program, all candidates must successfully pass the Physical Ability Test (PAT) prior to being accepted into the program.

Included in the application fee are three (3) two (2) hour sessions of the Practice Physical Ability Testing (PPAT). The PPAT is not mandatory but, will allow the applicant to be better prepared and become familiar with the components of the PAT (Physical Ability Test). Additional practices sessions can be purchased for $55.00 each. Please refer to the Firefighter Certification Program Instructions and Application for further details and dates of the PPAT..
